Antique Car Insurance

If you have an anitque car, you are probably used to spending money on it to keep it in top condition and on the road. One of those major expenses would have to be anitque car insurance. Antique car insurance is reserved for cars that are considered to be classic or antique cars because they were made over 15 years ago. You will not be able to cover your old car with regular car insurance. Instead, you will need special antique car insurance which in most cases will cost you more.

What is the difference between a classic car and a new car? The car which is over 15 years of age is considered to be a classic car and stays in that category until it reaches thirty years of the age when it officially becomes an antique. The value of the old car is ascertained by the condition of the car and its use. If the car is capable of being used on the road, the value of the car will be higher and the antique car insurance premiums will be higher. The classification periods do vary among different insurance companies so it pays to shop around to see if your car would be considered a classic or an antique.

A car is usually considered an antique piece when it has reached 25 to 30 years old. Many antique cars are kept just for show and not for driving. These cars can be driven in a restricted manner which normally is when taking them for the show. These cars have different types of license plates also.

Why is there is a requirement to classify cars? It is necessary to classify the cars so that suitable insurance for the car can be calculated. There are various types of insurance policies for old cars and they offer various conditions and to choose the best, you need to value your car correctly. There are various means by which you can ascertain the value of your car. If you do not value your car correctly you may have to pay more in premiums than is neccessary.

If you want to value your car more than its actual worth then you need an appraisal. The appraisal needs to be accurate if you genuinely need the insurance of your car to be more than its actual value. This would apply if you have spent a lot of money customizing your old car because you want to make sure your antique car insurance policy will fully cover the money you have invested into the car in case it is totaled.

When shopping for antique car insurance, in order to obtain the lowest rates, you should make sure you have a clean driving record and that your car is equipped with safety devices as appropriate. In addition, be sure the value of your policy is equal to the value of your anitque car.
